Candidates will then identify the sister languages to English and review cognate words within this language family to identify similarities and differences between the words.

Activity ObjectiveTo use phonetics/phonology principles in the analysis of English language samples.
Activity DescriptionCandidates will transcribe English samples from Old English and modern English in order to gain a picture of how English phonology has changed over time. Candidates will also analyze the transcriptions for similarities and differences between OE and ME.
